The Roots of the Unknown 5
The plot
Very special edition of The Roots, in which I have put my soul and a lot of effort. The style of mixing is mostly out of the routine and usual templates. I wanted to create an illusion while listening, not knowing where the music might take you. Unknown path, just like the title suggests, and as presented on another beautiful cover photos taken by Dejan Zakić. Sometimes the music is calm and bright, but after a while it becomes darker, only to return once more to the previous motive. ............................ For the first time, I had a need to present all tracks that are part of the mix. This is the backstory, in order to understand the whole idea that's behind the album. Nataša Nikolić and Lazar Todić - Mi Smo Deca Neba Mi Smo Deca Neba (We are the Children of the Sky) is a divine song in Serbian language, written by Maja Kadijević and Dragana D. Mirković, conductor of the Choir of the Monastery of the Most Holy Mother of God Trojeručica. The song is about intangible values, consolation, hope and love. It describes that material will past, but the spirit and deeds remain immortal. There is a personal story behind this song. When first hearing Nataša and Lazar performing it, I got completely fascinated with the color and match of their heavenly vocals. The emotions expressed in their interpretation, surely made the most beautiful thing I've heard in recent years. Nataša is a vocalist, while Lazar also plays several instruments, including clarinet, which he mastered during musical studies. Bross - Meraki (YokoO Not To Be Released Edit) (Andrey Reverse Edit) Bross is Romanian DJ and producer from Bucharest, the place where, along with a bunch of friends, he created what many call a community, Deep House Bucharest. YokoO, a French born globe trotter, made his spiritual touch of excellence to his track Meraki. I rearranged the original composition, put the outro as an intro and chopped it to separate parts. All with intention to make a piano background for the acapella chant of Mi Smo Deca Neba and to harmonically mix these two tracks. Not easy as it may sounds. Yeghish Manukyan - Where Is She (Christos Fourkis & Silia Love Mix) Yeghish Manukyan is a duduk maestro from Armenia, while brilliant Greek artists Christos Fourkis and Silia brought deeper atmosphere into it. I modified the pitch of this track, slowed it down to a tempo which I deemed appropriate for the mix. This changed the track from club to 'home headphones' orientation. Natassa Bofiliou - Sto'pa Kai Sto Ksanaleo (V-Sag Remix) This is traditional Greek song, that has been sung by many singers throughout the years, including Mariza Koch, Glikeria and Giorgos Dalaras. Although considered to be a love song, it emotionally describes leaving homeland in search for a better future and life. Memorable lyrics: "I told you once and I'm telling you again; Don't come near the sea shore; As the sea has storms; And will grab you and take you away; Even if it does grab me, where will it take me; All the way down into the deep water..." My friend Vasilis Sagonas has never officially released his remix of this song, performed by Natassa Bofiliou. Satori feat. Hugo Oak - Wasted (Kris Davis Remix) Satori is Djordje Petrović, Netherlands based artist with Serbian origins. He has brilliant career and is performing globally with his live show, presenting his style as a "endless blends of seductive trance and mind-altering earthy tones". He recorded this track with Hugo Oak, unconventional multi-instrumental vocalist, and included it in his second album In Between World from 2015. Pambouk & Hrag Mikkel - Hamayak Jan (Original Mix) Hamayak Jan is traditional, famous song in Armenian culture. This is a romantic story of the man called Hamayak, who fascinated the singer, even though he is poor. She is in love with him and would rather "starve to death, than be without him". Pambouk and Hrag Mikkel gave the deep and mysterious tone to this song. Valeron - Dismas (Original Mix) Valeron is Ilias Valaris, Greek producer from Corfu, with place of residence at Mykonos island. One of the most influential artist at Cyclades, owner of a radio station and a regular DJ at world famous Cavo Paradiso club. Dismas is his masterpiece, inspired by Middle East and Mediterranean, with wide selection of live instruments like clarinet, bouzouki, guitar, lyra, santur... Tebra - Suton (Alvaro Suarez Remix) Milojko Jarić is the name behind Tebra, which is Serbian word for Bro. Astonishing producer, inspired by world ethnic music, especially of Balkan region. Suton (Dusk) is his first EP, released in 2017. Etnica - Trip Tonite (D Maniac & Tebra Remix) Etnica are production duo from Italy, while Trip Tonite is the final track from their goa trance album Alien Protein, way back from 1996. When this old track comes into the hands of gifted artists, who rearranged basically everything, the result is staggering. Modd - Mabi (Original Mix) When you name your band Made Of Day Dreamers, the introduction to the music style is needless. Vladimir Makhnachev and Stanislav Klimushin come from Russia and have already delivered beautiful music to All Day I Dream and Anjunadeep labels. With this and next track, I wanted to change the mix direction and to calm it down again. Fulltone - Mahe (Original Mix) Amr Khaled is Egyptian artist based in Cairo. It is very interesting how he describes his music: "the harmony that results from diversified beats, sounds, rhythms and melodies; the perfect unity achieved when all these come together and merge into one tone; one Fulltone". DJ Tarkan - Violins (Original Mix) When not producing hits, Turkish giant Tarkan Örs is dedicated to alternative timeless beauties, like Violins. This track is a bridge to more energetic ending that will follow in the next couple of tracks. Tebra - Krug (Original Mix) Mystical track with haunting vocals Krug (Circle) is another contribution by Tebra. I wanted to get back to a positive way and to end this mix with dance in mind. Space Motion, Haze-M - Ariahy (Original Mix) I've been following Atila Tot, a man behind Space Motion project, from his early days of uplifting trance parties in Serbia. It is simply incredible how he developed his style and skill over the years, becoming one the most exciting producers of deep progressive house, globally. Together with Tunisian Haze-M, he created Ariahy, a blend of ethnic vocals and tribal grooves.
