Plot It has become some sort of tradition that The Roots of the Unknown makes a closure of the year.
As in the entire The Roots series, photos have been taken by magnificent Dejan Zakić, this time at the valley Logarska dolina, on the far north of Slovenia.
Backstory Armen Miran & Hraach feat. Iveta Mukuchyan - Sarer Jan Armenian-Iranian born and Los Angeles based multi-instrumentalist Armen Miran, draws inspiration from spirituality and nature for his creations. His tracks are well established in this series. Iveta Roberti Mukuchyan is the singer born in Yerevan and raised in Hamburg. She rose to fame when representing Armenia at the Eurovision song contest in 2016, finishing seventh in the final. Together with Hraach, they created Sarer Jan, mystical piece of art, that is a perfect way to start this journey.
Hraach - Eternal Soul Hraach is an Armenian producer currently living in Spain. Elegant transitions with abstract and mysterious tones characterize this artist who has managed to develop his musical world in which dark melancholic vibes abound with magnetic and deep rhythms that captivate listeners. His amazing work has been a part of previous editions of The Roots of the Unknown serial on four occasions and Drawing Path, predecessor of the entire series. With all this support, it is very obvious how I love this guy's work.
Hobin Rude - Echoes of the Forgotten Ognjen Cerović is the man behind Hobin Rude, Serbian progressive house DJ and producer based in Belgrade. In his own words, he is seamlessly searching for deeper meaning through music, rooted in rhythm and gently carried forward by deep sonic patterns.
Brian Cid - Welcome Them Brian is "a producer's producer, a kind of rare genius", as described by DJ Mag. A real globetrotter (born in New York, raised in Dominican Republic, based in Berlin), he produced and engineered many albums from the "A list" of hip hip and pop scene performers. However, his real talent comes in the form of underground electronic production and DJing.
V-Sag - Blue Eyes Vasileios Nektarios Sagonas, known professionally as V-Sag, is a Greek music producer, pianist, DJ and music teacher. The path and the ambition that he has built for all his life: "focus on good music, teach, be kind and do well in life". His music is inseparably linked to my personal work, with many of his tracks and remixes being part of my albums, while even having a great pleasure of sharing the DJ booth some years ago.
Maze 28 - Quantum Touch (Juan Buitrago & Tinga Remix) Described as "raw, groove-oriented, and highly energetic," Maze 28's sound sets the standard as Albania's leading talent in progressive house. The remix comes from South American duo Juan Buitrago from Colombia and Tinga from Argentina, making Quantum Touch a precious electronic gem.
Pambouk - Time Shant Pamboukian, also known as Pambouk, started playing the piano in his natal city of Beirut. Now is acclaimed producer of organic and cinematic sounds with deep, pulsing rhythms and ethereal melodies. Another name familiar with previous instalments of The Roots series.
Ar-Men da Viken - Taksim Voice (Christian Monique Remix) Ar-Men Da Viken is a producer born in the north of France. In the track Taksim Voice his melodious, hypnotic and melancholic style was cross-linked with Italian Christian Monique's darker progressive style, creating this beautiful instrumental masterpiece with mystical voice that you don't know where it might take you.
Giovanny Aparicio - Azul Profundo (Weird Sounding Dude Remix) Giovanny Aparicio, based in Cali, is one of Colombia’s most talented electronic music artists. His nomadic, avant-garde and organic sounds all come together in a very unique style. Coming from Bangalore, Weird Sounding Dude is "one of India’s most intriguing progressive house artists, with productions that stretch much further than the traditional scope of the progressive house", as seen by established Progressive Astronaut team.
CJ Art - Arrakis Artur Fabiański is CJ Art, stunning Polish artist that never fails. In my own words, written for his special guest appearance at Pulseone Sessions 47 "his sound depth is something not to be heard everyday, and when you add raw talent to that and mix it up with primal emotions, you get one of the most complete underground producers globally". “One of the most passionate artists I know within the underground world", as said by heavyweight John '00' Fleming.
Moshic - Adon Olam What to say about Moshic? A legend. True master. Game changer. Hailing from Haifa, his music path was not straightforward. His dark approach was not appreciated in his home land at the time, so he moved to New York where he established his signature style that can be described as dark, energetic and filled with Middle Eastern elements. He is known for infusing his productions with a touch of perfection and usually avoiding the easy route of sampling others' works. And on this rare occasions when using a sample, he makes that a perfection, like on Primavera. Under the Argonaut alias, his track Your Body Is The Temple was part of Tiësto's In Search of Sunrise 3 (Panama), one of the greatest mix compilations of all time (if you ask me). The rest was history, as Moshic became "the" producer, "the" DJ, the one that sets standards and inspire others. Adon Olam is religious song about "The Lord of the Universe who reigned before anything was created".
Ziger - Digital Dreams (Midnight Mix) Harris Zigeridis, shortly Ziger, is one of the main representatives of high quality electronic dance music in Greece. Covering both major scenes, born in Thessaloniki, later raised in Athens.
ANAXD - Pilgrim (Original Mix) Staying in Greece, with the artist Dimitris Papadopoulos under ANAXD moneker, born in the Rhodes island and living in Athens. Those two tracks, Digital Dreams and Pilgrim, go very well with each other, even though I had no idea they were created by artists from the same country, when compiling the tracks for the album.
Pole Folder - Elo (Solstice Mix) Pole Folder is a Belgian electronic musician and live club performer, based in Brussels. A former protégée of the highly respected British icon John Digweed, Pole Folder entered the limelight in 2001 as a DJ and producer at the forefront of the European progressive house movement, and has since evolved into a multi-instrumentalist and live performer of melodic-driven techno, tech house and deep house. I wanted to close the set in the positive tone, as a prelude to some good things that might come in the future...
