The Roots of the Unknown 7
The mysterious journey of the unknown man continues.
There are ups and downs in the mix, shifting between major and minor scales, instruments, voices, sounds. I tried to build an atmosphere of mystical journey, not knowing where the music might take you next.
As in the entire The Roots series, photos have been taken by magnificent Dejan Zakić, this time on the Zaovine lake close to Tara mountain in Serbia.
Paul Hepker, Mark Kilian - Home
Entire score for the Rendition movie, made by the South African composers Paul Hepker and Mark Kilian, is simply brilliant, but Home is breathtaking. It includes duduk, my favorite instrument, previously heard in many of my mixes and some sort of a sign of recognition for The Roots serial.
Solidmind - Artemisia
Stephan Kellner, a man behind Solidmind alias, created Artemisia by mixing divine heavenly vocals with hard hitting deep tech drums. His track Badain Jaran was part of previous edition.
Jean Vayat, Evelynka - Your Rain
Jean Vayat is Ivan Babenko, born in Kiev, living in Los Angeles. With his exceptional sense for oriental sound, he made Your Rain, combining drums and deep gritty basslines blended with soulful vocal from Evelynka.
Mikael Delta - Dub Roads
I have to be honest and say that Mikael Delta is one of my favourite artists in the world. I’ve been following his opus over the two decades and, even though his music is not intended for mixes, I played his tracks on my Moments in Dreams way back in 2009. Each of his albums represent an art form, with Deep Inside and Forbidden Poetry as the true masterpieces.
Dub Roads is the track from his latest album A New Beginning, emotional atmospheric vision of downtempo, dub techno and electronica.
Anton Ishutin - Urartu
Anton Ishutin is a producer from Saint Petersburg who created beautiful organic house tune Urartu, composed in C minor, with mystical overtones.
Valeron - Scorpios
Valeron, Greek producer from Corfu, is a familiar face in The Roots series, as I included his tracks in previous two instalments. In order to fit in the concept, I played D Major Scorpios on a higher pitch compared to the original version.
Ahyoka - Not Today (Xia Ke Remix)
Ahyoka is a female producer of dark progressive sounds based in north of Paris, France. Her name in native American language means “bringer of happiness”. From a very tender age, Ahyoka was immersed in music, especially Indian classical music with instruments like harmonium, flute, violin and tabla.
Fantastic remix comes from Xia Ke, a producer from Shanghai, in his own words “rabbit hole digger and dream builder”.
JKC, OF REZZ - Moretón
JKC is hailing from Iran’s capital Tehran, while Hamidreza Fathi behind OF REZZ is currently living in Dominican Republic. Together they created Moretón, inspired by The Orient.
Zalagasper - Valovi (Teodor G. Remix)
Zalagasper is musical project and combination of names of vocalist Zala Kralj and multi-instrumentalist Gašper Šantl, a Slovenian duo from Maribor. Their fellow citizen Teodor Gajšek prepared beautiful, deep and emotional remix in progressive set of tones for the song Valovi (Waves).
LADS, Traumhouse - Avem (Bengal Remix)
Avem is the track that actually symbolize entire The Roots concept of diversity of nations, sounds and cultures: one German and one South African (LADS), together with a couple Silvana Marotta and Sebastian G. behind Traumhouse project living in Germany, remixed by Ben Engelberg aka Bengal from San Francisco.

Jerry Spoon is a Swiss electronic music producer, sound engineer and owner of Studio Voisier. His music genres oeuvre between dark, melodic progressive house to ambient downtempo.
Ben & Vincent is a producer born in Iran of Assyrian heritage in the early 80s. Raised and educated in Europe, his life and music has been deeply inspired by both Eastern and Western cultures.
Alex Doering - Flowing Chi (Mustafa Ismaeel Remix)
Alex is a producer and sound nomad. He believes that a mindful and dedicated practice brings about a deeper understanding of both sound and silence.
Mustafa Ismaeel is a producer from Toronto, who is constantly redefining his musical boundaries while creating vibrant, profound and unique journeys. Born in Iraq and maturing in Canada has added to the versatility and universe of his music.
Matan Caspi - Amadeus (Andrey Edit)
Matan Caspi is one of the most refreshing electronic music producers coming out from the Israeli underground scene. His productions without fail always shine with a unique fusion of wide and diverse electronic genres. Amadeus is energetic track, which I rearranged in a dub edit.
Golan Zocher, Gux Jimenez, Mango - Only a Shadow
From the Middle East to Central America and Russia, a trio of artists blend their talents. Out of the darkness and into the light, Golan Zocher, Gux Jimenez and Mango build a stratified sonic beauty Only a Shadow. Subtle organic layers amble through a forest of percussive samplings that sit beneath a towering beat and subterranean groove.
Franky Wah - SD
Franky Wah is Yorkshire producer from Doncaster who established big career in underground dance music and even become cover star for the prestigious Mixmag edition in Spain.
